My Coffee Cups are Antiques

When I was 22, in 1993, I bought a set of six tea cups from Crate and Barrel on Michigan Avenue in Chicago and shipped them back to Salt Lake City.

It never occurred to me that something I bought new could become an antique.

The set included saucers and lids.

Now, in 2016, I have a set of five. One, has a small chip in the top.

Instead of tea, I drink coffee now.

These cups feel comfortable in my hand and against my lips.

They traveled from Salt Lake City to Sundance to Park City to Pasadena and back to Park City.

Now, the saucers serve slow-cooked chicken to Betty White, my 6-pound Maltese fospice dog.

I can’t believe that something I bought new is an antique.
