Vocabulary Lesson: Literally vs. Figuratively

My backyard is literally and figuratively a shit show.

Okay, this is not tomorrow’s lesson plan. On Thursday and Friday, I struggled to help students understand the word “figuratively.”

Yesterday, with bright sunshine and 36 degrees, I ventured into the backyard.

DISCLAIMER: I pick up poop every single day.

But, with antibiotics, an earache, and a sinus infection combined with fatigue, I did not set foot in the backyard yesterday.

When I looked, I realized that I was literally and figuratively in a shit show. Between the poop and Houston’s toilet papering of the backyard, it was not pretty.

Over the past week, Houston dragged out the Watt Smart light bulbs (and the box), garbage bags, puppy training pads, and toys.

Based on Leona Lansing’s definition, it is literally and figuratively a shit show.
