Gus’ Adopt-PAW-Versary
15 July 2013
Three years ago, I arrived in the Hooker Horde. For 1,095 days, hu-mom has put her hand on my heart and told me, “You will always be safe. You will always be warm. You will always be dry. You will always have enough to eat. And, you will always be loved.”
My life started in a puppy mill in Missouri. In 2010, we (hu-mom and my four-legged siblings) stopped talking about the past and moved into life.
When I arrived, I was scared of everything. It took me a long time to feel comfortable. I hid in my kennel. Then, I moved to the landing on the stairs so I could watch what was happening. Now, I sit on the sofa.
I love to luxuriate in yoga poses. When I get off the bed I share with hu-mom, I stretch into a downward facing dog.
In 2013, I started playing with toys and barking. I pick up stuffed squeaky balls and run around while hu-mom makes breakfast and dinner. Because I like sweet potato, she adds a spoonful to every dish.
When hu-mom picked me up on July 15, 2010, the rescue said, “He may never be a ‘real’ dog.” I’m a real dog.
Hu-mom learned how to be patient. She gives me my space.
But, I keep her in my sight at all times.
